Training undertaken should be specific/relevant to the sport
2 of 13
Progression
Training should become progressively more difficult.Training must be sensibly progressive and realistic to be effective otherwise injury may occur
3 of 13
Overload
To work the body harder than normal so there is some stress and discomfort.Eg;In weight training the lifter will eventually attempt heavier weights but shorter reps.Overload can be achieved by increasing the frequency, intensity and duration of activi
4 of 13
Reversibility
If training stops or decreases in intensity for any duration and it can become progressively worse (deteriorate).Fitness gained will be lost
5 of 13
How do we optimise performance?
Using the FITT principle
6 of 13
What does FITT stand for?
Frequency,intensity,time,type
7 of 13
Frequency
The number of training sessions per week,it will depend on the performer's level of ability/fitness
8 of 13
Intensity
How hard the session is,again fitness/ability will be taken into account
9 of 13
Time
The time/duration that the training takes up.If aerobic training is required, there should be a minimum of 20mins or so.The duration of the training must take into account the intensity of training to be effective
10 of 13
Type
The type of training to be considered to fulfil specific needs.EG: a cross country runner would incorporate continuous
11 of 13
What is ballistic stretching?
The momentum of a moving body/limb in an attempt to force it beyond its normal range of movement
12 of 13
What are types of training?
The type of training you choose can work on a number of components of fitness
