pre-conventional, conventional and post conventional

Outline the pre-conventional level
Rules are set down by others and their moral code is shaped by others and their consequences of breaking and following rules

Outline the conventional level
Begin to adopt rules and begin to internalize moral standards of adult role models

Outline the post conventional level
Defines own values and moral reasoning is based on individual prejudices, rights and justice

What are the two stages in the pre-conventional level?
obedience and punishment orientation - punishment determined by goodness/badness and instrumental relativist orientation - what is right satisfies ones needs and occasionally others

What are the two stages in the conventional level?
good-boy good-girl orientation - good behaviour is what pleases others and law and order orientation - right is doing ones duty and respecting authority

What are the two stages of the post-conventional level?
Social contract orientation - laws can be changed for the good of society and universal ethical principle orientation - what is good is defined by your own conscious

What are the criticisms of Kohlberg's work?
mainly used boys and girls moral reasoning is different, we can moral more sophisticatedly then what the stages suggest and our behaviour affects our reasoning which wasn't considered
