Case Study – Mount Merapi, Indonesia
- Volcanic eruption happened in 2010 (LEDC)
- 353 deaths
- 360,000 people were displaced (moved/evacuated)
- 1,500 search and rescue
- 2,600 moved to a new place (safer)
- New land was offered and would be $3,200 and a small plot of land (however the land wasn’t fertile, so the crops wouldn’t be as good)
Causes:
- Indo – Australian plate was sub ducted underneath the Eurasian plate (due to the indo Australian plate being denser and heavier)

- Warnings coming through during the night (very late)
