Strengths:
Supported by research - STM & LTM are qualitatively different.
STM coding = acoustic
LTM coding = semantic
Supports MSMs view - two memory stores are different
Weaknesses:
MSM states that STM is only one type of memory store but evidence from people with amnesia (KF) challenges this.
Word lists have no significance.
There’s more than one type of rehearsal - Elaborative rehearsal is more useful for getting information to the LTM
