Beyond the world. God created the world, so God must be beyond the world

God makes the law. He gave the Mitzvot to Moses on Mount Sinai

Jews believe God judges everyone based on their actions and gives rewards or punishments. He is a God of Justice who judges fairly

Merciful
God showing compassion and forgiveness to human beings, even though he has the power to punish them.

YHWH
The Hebrew consonants of God's name. God's name God's name is too holy to pronounce - so Jews add the consonants of the word 'Lord and say 'Lord - Adonai' when reading from the Torah.

Mitzvah (plural Mitzvot)
Commandment/s. There are 613 commandments in the Torah. Keeping these commandments is the chief duty of Jews to God.

Covenant
An agreement between two parties, freely entered into, with rights and responsibilities on both sides. The agreement between God and his chosen people the Jews.

Brit Milah (Circumcision)
Removal of the foreskin from the penis. a sign of the covenant and a Mitzvah.

The Chosen People
Jews believe they were chosen by God to be 'a kingdom of priests' showing the world what God is like. If they keep God's laws this is a blessing, but if they break them it is a curse.

Literally 'the path one walks.' Jewish laws about every aspect of how Jews should live their lives.

Free will
The ability to make decisions between right and wrong.

Pikuach Nefesh
Saving human life is the most important principle, because life is sacred and given by God. Jews can break most other commandments to save a life, eg not keeping Shabbat.

Healing the world. The belief that Jews should repair or heal the world.

Monotheistic
A religion which worships ONE God

The World to Come
In Hebrew OLAM HA-BA. Could refer to the perfect world in the Messianic age or where souls go after death.

Judgement
The belief that God judges a person based on their actions and that he rewards or punishes them as a result.

Messiah
Literally 'anointed one'. The leader of the Jews whom they expect to live on earth at some time in the future.

Messianic Age
A future time of peace when everyone wants to be close to God. At sometime in the future. when the Messiah comes
