Why is it needed?
To even out water resources between the water-rich south and the water scarce north of China.

44.8 billion cubic metres of water per year (equivalent to nearly half amount of water consumed in California annually)

Where will the water be diverted from and to?
From the Yangtze Rive (southern China) to the Yellow River Basin in arid northern China. There will be canal which will link China's 4 major rivers.

Who will fund the project?
60% from the government, rest from local authorities who will charge domestic and industrial users.

Reduce pollution and help ensure that water in the project areas meets minimum drinking standards.

The glaciers of Tibet could continue to melt, reducing the amount of water in the Yangtze River (where most will be diverted from) leaving an inadequate supply to meet the demands of both the north and south.
