Many OT prophecies state that the Messiah will be an heir of David

Matthew begins his Gospel with a genealogy, like in the Old Testament, where David's genealogy traces him back to Abraham

Abraham - David = 14 generations

David - Deportion to captivity (Babylon) = 14 generations

Deportion - Jesus = 14 generations

Descendents of David have not been ruled as king for 14 generations

14: Two times seven, the sacred number      David's Hebrew (number) name spelling, DWD, is 14

Jesus was Joseph's legal son, and that is what mattered in 1st Century Palestine (legal descent)
