There has been a long history of concern with the effects of the media among sociologists and pyschologists who believe it to be a very pwerful agency of socialisation. There is claimed to be a link between youth violence and the media. As early as 1960s, a pyschologist, Albert Bandura, claimed that there was a direct link between the exposure to watching violence and violent play among children. Despite some criticism of his experiment, it is still seen by many as powerful evidence that the media have a major impact on children and this impact can be negative.
