The role of the media in the process of socialisation

Since we're now living in a media-saturated society, the media has become an increasingly significant influence in secondary socialisation. The media can be television, film, music, newspapers, magazines, the internent, etc.

The way in which people are socialised via the media is more concentrated on role models and imitation, rather than social control via sanctions etc. The media further influences our gender identity. For example, boys might want to aspire to be like their sporting
