Biofeedback:

Strengths:

  • Non-invasive
  • No side effects (compared to drugs)
  • Gives individual self-control over stress response (this sense of control may actually reduce the stress rather than biofeedback itself)

Weaknesses:

  • May need expensive equipment/trained staff
  • Requires effort and commitment - not easy to learn
  • Only treats symptoms of stress, not the causes such as workplace tension
  • Short-term - although it may provide patient with long-term techniquesd to reduce their stress
