	At the beginning of the novella, Martin can do no wrong in Max's eyes even though he has toyed with his sisters emotions and left her heart broken. However, this loyalty and sworn friendship to Martin ends when he brutally turns her away from his home and allows her to be murdered. We see a warm, loving man turn into a callous, devious man who exacts revenge on the man who effectively killed his sister.
