How sustainable are the Londons 2010 Olympics?

Advantages

  • Over 3,000 new jobs and up to 9000 new homes were promised, together with the environmental clean-up.
  • Located in an accessible point outside central London.
  • more than 4,000 trees have been planted in the park, one of the largest planting projects ever in the UK.
  • Energt use will be low and low carbon power and heat will be produced locally at a new energy centre within the Olympic park.

Disadvantages

  • In the original bid, 3000 of the 4000 homes were to be created as affordable housing whereas now only 1,200 of them are considered affordable housing
  • In 2004, before London won the bid the IOC doubted the city's transport system could cope with with the Olympics. The new Kent Link on the channel tunnel rail Link from London St Pancras to Paris and Brussels passes through Stratford it has no customs control
  • over 380 companies operated in the area before the redevelopment, employing 11,000 people. Companies moved to locations in central London, Enfield or Essex.

Evaluation

There is a variety of advantages and disadvantages of holding the London 2012 Olympics. An even amount of both that can both be evenly arguable.
