- Lacked ecological validity - can't be generalised to an every day life setting
- Lacked population validity - only males were used so can't assume women would have gotten the same results
- Lab experiment so controlled and standardised procedure - improves reliability
- Miglram did debrief after the study took place to ensure there was n long lasting harm
- Deception - believed they were actually shocking a person which could have been fatal at 450v
- Psychological harm - may have been scarred by the fact that they would have killed someone if it were real
