What is man? (Give 4 answers)
More than an animal, made in the image of God. A thinker, not just smart, but self-aware; we think about the meaning of life. Creative (in the image of God the Creator). We can choose to resist our instincts.

What is man? (Give 4 answers)
We have Free Will, so we are responsible for our actions. We have a conscience; an inner moral sense. God has given us a soul, so we can know him; and there will be life after death. He made Man responsible for the World.

What is the purpose of life? (What Religion says)
To care for God’s world as stewards. To use our God-given talents to make the world better for us all. Jesus said it is to “love God and love your neighbour as yourself”.

What is the purpose of life? (What others might say)
There is no purpose, life is just an accident of nature. Enjoy life to the full, we just have one life. We can care for the world for the sake of our children.

What can we do with our talents?
These are God-given, we are “gifted” (so we might choose a job/career to use these talents- this would be our vocation). We should use these to serve others (Jesus – “love your neighbour”.) We should use our talents to look after the planet.

Pollution (Air – Smog, Sea – Toxic Waste, Land – Litter). Deforestation and loss of rainforests. Destruction of animal habitats/animal extinctions.Global Warming etc.

Example of a Christian who has worked for the enviorment.
Chico Mendes (Roman Catholic). This Brazilian rubber tapper began by leading protests against the rich ranch owners and the big multinational companies who were burning down the rainforest to clear land for cattle. His protests were peaceful.

Why do Muslims work for the enviorment?
Muslims consider that they are connected to the whole part of nature and are responsible for it. They are called by Allah the khalifahs, stewards/guardians of creation, working to maintain fitrah (balance in the natural world).

What do they believe will happen on Judgement Day - to do with the enviroment?
On Judgement Day, Muslims believe that Allah will judge them specifically in regard to how they have cared for his creation.

Christian views on treatment of animals. - Eating
The Bible doesn’t give a rule, but meat eating isn’t condemned – in fact Jesus ate meat. So, most Christians would see it as acceptable to use animals for food.

Why do some Christians opt for vegetarianism?
Some Christians opt for Vegetarianism as they point to the Garden of Eden, where Adam and Eve’s diet appears to be vegetarian, implying this was the lifestyle God intended for Mankind.

What are the Christian views on animal testing?
Humane treatment is important; to be cruel or neglectful to animals makes us cruel people. Some will accept medical experiments using animals, but not for the cosmetic industry.

Muslim views on animal treatment.
The Quran allows people to use animals for work and for food; but treatment must be kind and humane. Muhammad said animals must not be overworked. Animals can be hunted and eaten, but must be killed quickly and humanely.

Muslim - Halal laws.
Islam’s halal food laws prevent them eating some animals (eg. pigs.) and insist on traditional slaughtering of animals; a sharp knife cut across the throat (but some say this is cruel and the animal should be stunned first.)

What are the Muslim views on animal experiments?
Many accept animal experiments for good medical reasons if pain can be avoided.
