Clues

  • A change in social class, usually moving up from thew class you were born into (6, 8)
  • A state in which the welfare of the people in such matters as social security, health and education, housing and working conditions is the responsibility of the Government. (7, 5)
  • An invisible barrier preventing people getting a job, used to describe challenges faced by ethnic minority groups (5, 4)
  • Relative poverty is based on the gap in wealth between the lowest and higher classes, how poor people are IN RELATION to others. Also defined as earning less than 60% of the UK median wage. (8, 7)
  • Someone is described as living in absolute poverty only if they are deprived of two or more of the following: food, safe drinking water, sanitation facilities, health care, shelter, education and access to benefits. (8, 7)
  • The area of a nation's affairs under Governmental rather than private control (6, 6)
  • The area of a nation's economy under private rather than Governmental control. (7, 6)
  • The proportion of sickness or of a specific disease in a geographical locality (9)
  • The relative frequency of deaths in a specific population; death rate (9)
  • Treatment or consideration of, or making a distinction in favour of or against a person or thing based on the group, class or category to which that person or thing belongs rather than on individual merit (14)
