Social Mobility
A change in social class, usually moving up from thew class you were born into

Absolute Poverty
Someone is described as living in absolute poverty only if they are deprived of two or more of the following: food, safe drinking water, sanitation facilities, health care, shelter, education and access to benefits.

Relative Poverty
Relative poverty is based on the gap in wealth between the lowest and higher classes, how poor people are IN RELATION to others. Also defined as earning less than 60% of the UK median wage.

Mortality
The relative frequency of deaths in a specific population; death rate

Discrimination
Treatment or consideration of, or making a distinction in favour of or against a person or thing based on the group, class or category to which that person or thing belongs rather than on individual merit

Welfare State
A state in which the welfare of the people in such matters as social security, health and education, housing and working conditions is the responsibility of the Government.

Private Sector
The area of a nation's economy under private rather than Governmental control.

Public Sector
The area of a nation's affairs under Governmental rather than private control

Morbidity
The proportion of sickness or of a specific disease in a geographical locality

Taxation
A means by which Governments finance their expenditure by imposing charges on citizens and corporate entities (businesses)

Glass Ceiling
An invisible barrier preventing promotion, used to describe gender inequalities in the workplace

Glass Door
An invisible barrier preventing people getting a job, used to describe challenges faced by ethnic minority groups
