What are the advantages of encoding?
-reduces transcription errors -Takes up less storage space -Data is faster to enter -It is faster to search for something

What are the two problems with encoding data?
Coarsens precision and Vale judgements

What is coarsens precision?
When the encoded data is less accurate than the original. For example; If a company was storing paint colours, they would enter Bl and Gr instead of Blue and Green, which looses detail in terms of what shade each colour is.

What are value judgements?
Value judgements can lead to inconsistencies. For example; If asked "Was the meal 'excellent' 'very good' 'good' or 'poor', one person's excellent meal may only be good for another.
