1. What are the functions of the CNS?

  • Responsible for rest and relaxation e.g digestion
  • Controlling emotions, thoughts, movements, and desires. Allows breathing and release of some hormones, and temperature
  • Allows us to control our involuntary movements e.g pupil dilation

2. What is the function of the spinal cord? What does it do?

  • Allows us to remove waste from the body using the digestive system.
  • Allows us to have the protection which is provided in the skeletal system to protect muscles.
  • It is a long tubelike structure starting at the brain stem and is carried on towards the bottom of the spine. The spinal cord is also responsible for carrying information between the brain and body.
  • Allows us the pump the blood and oxygen system like the cardiovascular system

3. Name functions of the sympathetic nervous system?

  • *Undoes work after a stressful situation
  • *Increases digestion *Decreases respriation *Fight or flight
  • *Fight of flight *Increase of blood pressure and heart rate *Allows blood to travel to the skeletal muscles
  • *Blood into the skeletal muscles *Rest and relaxation *Increases blood pressure

4. What does the automatic nervous system do?

  • Controls movement which is voluntary
  • Responsible for involuntary actions e.g heartbeat
  • Responsible for storing memories and emotion
  • Allows the fight or flight response

5. What does the PNS (peripheral nervous system) do?

  • Sends messages from the CNS to the rest of the body.
  • Allows the body to rest and relax
  • Responsible for flight or flight responses
  • Stores memories and emotions
