1st Stage Of Labour

2nd Stage Of Labour
Once the cervix is fully dilates the vagina and cervix become one and are called the birth canal. To help the baby to move down the birth canal, each time a contraction begins the mother will push. Baby is born and the umbilical cord is cut&clamped

3rd Stage of Labour
This is the shortest stage. After the birth has finished more contractions will push out the placenta which can last from 20-60 minutes. Often an injection of syntocin is given to speed this up and stop heavy blood loss.

An episiotomy may be needed (Cut the vagina/bumhole) When the head is seen at the vagina opening it is known as crowning

Size of a poppy seed. Embryo is implanted and connected to the mother by an umbilical cord. Its got a head and a heart which has started to beat. The bones and organs start to develop

8 Weeks development- Foetus
Size of a grape. It is now a foetus. It has got arms and legs and the fingers and toes are forming. The spine is developing

12 Weeks development- Foetus
Size of a Lemon. Foetus is fully formed. The heart beats, twice as fast as an adults heart. The foetus can move around. It can now open and close its mouth. The eyelids grow and stay closed until week 26

24 Weeks development- Foetus
Size of a swede. Foetus is Viable. It patterns of sleep and activity. It is covered with downy hair called LANUGO and a white greasy substance called VERNIX

36 Weeks development
Size of a papaya. The head of the foetus may drop down into the mothers pelvis ready to be born, which is called engaging. The vernix and lanugo disappear.
