How do desert plants adapt to having little water?
Small surface area compared to volume, water storage tissues- cacti have thick stems in which they store water- maximise water absorption
1 of 5
How are plants and animals adapted to deter predators?
Armour: roses have thorns, cacti have sharp spines, tortoises have shells. Produce poisins, eg. bees and poisin ivy. Warning colours eg. wasps
2 of 5
How have arctic animals adapted to reduce heat loss?
Small surface area compared to volume, camoflage, well insulated (fur coats, thick layers of blubber)
3 of 5
How have desert animals adapted to save water and keep cool?
Large surface area compared to volume, efficient with water (produce small amounts of conceentrated urine, dont sweat much), good in hot conditions (thin coat, thin layers of fat), camoflage
4 of 5
How do micro-organisms adapt to survive a range of environments?
Some micro-organisms (eg. bacteria) are extremophiles- adapted to live in extreme climates eg. v. salty lakes, hot volcano vents or at high pressure at the bottom of the sea
