Families come in all shapes and sizes, here are the main types:


1) Standard is mum and dad living with child(ren)

2) Separate from other relatives

3) Advantage: can raise the children without interference

4) Disadvantage: child may have to be looked after by someone outside the family if the parents want/need to go out

5) Disadvantage: child might not see relatives as much


1) More relatives living nearby

2) Grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins are around in everyday life

3) Advantage: always a relative for childcare

4) Advantage: possible advice from relatives

5) Disadvantage: parents can feel like relatives are interfering with the child's upbringing
