• There is a potential for water conflict when the demand for water overtakes supply and several stakeholders wish to use the same resources.
• Tensions between and within countries can be created as a result of competing demands for water for irrigation, power generation, domestic use, recreation and conservation.
• Conflict is more likely where developing countries are involved- Water is vital as they stuggle to feed their growing populations and try to cope with poor water management.
