characters

• any letter, number or symbol used in a document
• e.g. letter=b, number=4 symbol=@

sections

• a proportion of a document where page formatting options can be set
• until section breaks are inserted, word will treat the whole document as a single section

frames

• area of page containing text, graphics can be positioned anywhere on the page
• word processors aren't frame based so if a paragraph is deleted then everything else will adjust…
