Birdsong Notes Chapter 4 (pg.31-33)
Synopsis- Stephen is sitting in a café. Whilst eating there and contemplating his surroundings, he catches sight of Isabelle and follows her. Having caught up with her, they both go to Lucien Lebrun’s house where Stephen discovers that Isabelle has secretly been taking food to the dyers and their families in order to not let them starve. (AO1-understanding of context)
‘It was a place frequented by young men, students or apprentices, many of whom sat at the same tables each day.’ Faulk’s description of the types of people who enter the café emphasise the busyness of the café. (AO2-language)
