P1 LUKE
Tax collectors as sinners; reject Jewish culture & religion; collaborate with Roman authorities at cost of fellow Jews; charge what they wanted;

P1 EARLY CHURCH
Sin as serious issue; baptism held off; Constantine; Clinical Baptism; Criticised as it does not encourage sinless life.

P2 LUKE
Forgiveness through healing miracles; crippled woman healed thru forgiveness of sins; Jesus teaches disciples to pray for forgiveness; Lord's prayer "Forgive our sins as we forgive those who sin against us"; Divine & Human forgiveness related; Gods forgiveness of discples conditional on forgivess of others.

P2 EARLY CHURCH
Tertullian's writings; bishop could forgive some sins; not capital sins; recanting one's faith - ex communication.

P2 EARLY CHURCH
Time of persecution; Christians fell away; problem of the lapsed; church councils consider reinstated to church depending on actions & repentance.

P3 LUKE
Translation of Greek word Metanoia; Changing one's direction in life; Parable of Lost son; Repents to his father; illustration of sinners who have fallen away from God; Always possible to be forgiven with repentance.

P3 EARLY CHURCH
Repent through act of penance; outward act of an inner repentance; Callistus advises penance as neccessary for forgiveness.

CONCLUSION
Forgiveness & Repentance in both Luke & EC; Illustrated in Luke through parables; Lost son - forgiven with repentance. EC demonstrated this these teachings throughout worship baptism & persecutions
