what is sin

sin- behaviour which is against Gods laws and wishes and against principles of morality

types of sin

venial sin- lesser sins- eg swearing

mortal sin-serious- eg murder, ****- can only be forgiven by reconcilation

sorrow

sorrow is the natural reponse to sin

its a sign that the person has reconised that they have done something wrong and want to change it

Reconiliation

"God redeems your life from the pit"

"forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us"

confession- admitting you have done something wrong

penance- requirement the priest gives you eg more prayer

contrition- being sorry and not wating to sin again

absolution- being forgiven

causes of crime

moral failings- people are born with orginal sin, so are likely to sin

evil- people are tempted by evil

"not seven times, but seventy seven times"

the death penalty

the catholic church is opposed to the death penalty, unless it is the only way to protect society

goes against "do not kill" and "love your neighbour"
