Proteins

Proteins are made up of MOLECULES

These combine together to make AMINO ACIDS

Chemical Elements in Protein are CARBON, HYDROGEN, OXYGEN and NITROGEN

There are 22 Proteins are divided into TWO groups:

HIGH BIOLOGICAL VALUE - HBV contain all the essential AMINO ACIDS

ALSO known as INDISPENSABLE AMINO ACIDS

Found in ANIMAL SOURCES - Milk, Cheese, Meat, Eggs, FISH

LOW BIOLOGICAL VALUE - LBV lack one or more of the essential AMINO ACIDS

ALSO known as INCOMPLETE proteins

Found in PLANT SOURCES - Peas, Beans, Lentils, Nuts and Cereals

There is one exception to this:  SOYA BEANS contain HBV protein

WE NEED PROTEIN for GROWTH, REPAIR and MAINTENANCE
