What are the key features of a eukaryotic cell?

This question is worth 6 marks:

  • have a cell membrane (1)
    • selectively permeable membrane as it controls the substances that pass through it (1)
  • contain cytoplasm (1)
    • where the cell's chemical reactions take place (1)
  • have a nucleus (1)
    • is the control centre of the cell (1) OR
    • contains the genetic material in the form of chromosomes (1)

What are the key features of a prokaryotic cell?

This question is worth 6 marks:

  • have no nucleus (1)
    • genetic material is instead stored in a single DNA loop in the cytoplasm (1)
  • have plasmids (1)
    • can replicate (have copies made) and move between cells so genetic information can be shared (1)
  • have no mitochondria OR chloroplasts (1)
    • do not contain mitochondria meaning respiration cannot take place OR
    • do not contain chloroplasts meaning photosynthesis cannot take place

Answer should have any 3 POINTS and any 3 EXPLANATIONS.
