what are nutrients?

Foods contain 5 different nutrients, some foods are better sources than others of certain nutrients they each help the body in a diferent way.

what are the main food groups?

The 5 main types of foods can be easily grouped:

  • proteins-meat,fish,eggs,beans.
  • carbohydrate-bread,rice,potatoes,pasta.
  • fruit and vegetables-oranges,tomatoes.
  • dairy products-milk,yoghurts.
  • fats and sugars-sweets,fizzy drinks.

what is a balanced diet?

A diet containing a balance of the 5 main food groups.

Children need to gain plenty of energy from their food,their portion of fruit and vegetables will be smaller than those of and adult.
