Virtue theory

Advantages

Emphasis on pleasure and emotion
Wants to create good human beings not just acts and rules
Emphasises modernisation and situatedness
Unifies reason and emotion separating reason and emotion
Easy to teach and learn

Disadvantages

Too much focus on the individual - could be seen as self-centred
Too dependent on the goodness of others
Too complex and intelligent to be applicable to anyone except the philosopher
Subjective - focuses on achieving eudaimonia
Gives little practical guidance

Evaluation

Useful when faced with dilemmas however has its limitations. If a person was looking for an absolutist guide to a moral dilemma then virtue theory would not suitable.
