Virtue theory is associated with Aristotles book nichomachean ethics. Virtue is a greek word (arete).-non-normative ethic theory.

the focus is on developing ones moral character and not blind obedience to ethical codes.to develop ones virtuous character one develos virtuous habits.

practice is important as it enables the development of virtues- throigh constant practice the individual creates a virtuous character. -"excellence is an art won by training and habituation."

the goal is to achieve competence (moral excellence) in 2 types of virtues : moral and intellectual.

virtuous behaviour is developed by applying wisdom to attain the highest human good- eudaimonia.

intellectual virtues- bring the knowledege for being educated and applying the reason.- phronesis-to ensure moral virtues are developed.- virtuous habits are learnt to become perfection so they become second nature.
