Advantages

good for rare occurances
useful for generating new ideas and provide insight for further research
allow researcher to investigate the topic in far more detail than with a large number of participants
establish some meaning to complex quantitative findings

Disadvantages

impossible to generalise
researchers' own subjective feelings may influence the case study (researcher bias)
difficult to replicate
very time consuming

Evaluation

case studies are in-depth investigations of a singer person, group of event. Typically, data gathered is from a variety of sources, e.g. observations and interviews. the research may also continue for an extended period of time.
