      • common symptoms
        • hot flushes and night sweats
        • problems with memory
        • headaches
        • joint and muscle stiffness
        • lack of interest in sex
        • symptoms often last for 4 years
      • what is it?
        • fall in oestrogen which means that periods are less regular and eventually stop
        • the average age for the menopause to begin is 51
      • diet
        • eat a healthy varied diet
        • more at risk of osteoprosis so make sure to eat a diet rich in calcium (dairy) and vitamin d (oily fish/ sunlight)
        • more at risk of cvd so eat foods that are low in saturated fats
