Philip II's Domestic Policies
- Religion
  - Little way for Prot. in Spain
  - Philip banned import of foreign books as well as ability to study at foreign universities
  - Upheld orthodoxy of Catholic Church by increasing number of bishops and the standard their skill
  - Council of Trent allowed for religious reform and significantly changed religion in Spain
- Government
  - 1561- Madrid became capital where gov. was centralised
    - Improved bureaucracy, used proper filing system and organisation
  - Junta de La Noche- provided daily w/ info from all over Spain
  - Regional councils reported to him everyday
  - Philip had immmense amount of control in gov. as he dealt w/ everything himself
- Morisco Revolt 1568-70
  - Suppressed by Philip as he dispersed the Moriscos around Spain but this was resented by rest of the op.
- Finance
  - Between 1560-1600 the amount of bullion received from NW quadrupled
  - Spain seemed wealthy and powerful
  - Crown received 1/3 of tithes
- The Revolt of Aragon 1591
  - Gained control over the justiciar (administrator of justice)
    - Gave the Crown control they hadn't had in his ancestors rule
  - Appointed foreign ministers for Aragon
