- Jane Eyre,10 year old orphan who turns into a sensitive, independent young woman
- At their wedding she rejects Mr Rochester in marriage after she finds out that he already has a wife. She goes away and meets St. John who wants her hand in marriage but is also denied as she finds out that they are cousins. She then goes back to Thornfield and marries a blind Mr Rochester
- As an orphan she was raised by her cruel wealthy aunt Mrs. Reed.
- One day as a punishment for fighting with her cousin her was put in the red room where her uncle had died. While in there she believed she saw her uncles ghost
- When Mrs. Reed agreed to give up Jane she was sent to Lowood School however the school's headmaster Mr Brocklehurst isn't nice. However she remains there for a further 8 years 6 as a student and 2 as a teacher
- Edward Rochester, is the owner of Thornfield Manor and is Jane's lover, thought not be handsome but his sensual character is appealing to Jane
- Mr Rochester askes Jane to marry him she agrees however on the wedding day it is revealed that Mr Rochester is already married to Bertha because of this Jane leaves
- While Jane was away Bertha set fire to Thornfield. Mr Rochester saved his servants he also tried to save Bertha who was on the roof but she committed suicide and when he tried to get down the stair well collapsed and he lost his vision
- Mr Rochester askes Jane to marry him she agrees however on the wedding day it is revealed that Mr Rochester is already married to Bertha because of this Jane leaves
- St. John Rivers takes Jane into Moor House brother to Diana and soon to be revealed cousin to Jane. he is strictly dedicated to Christianity
- St. John Rivers is too religious for Jane so she doesn't love him plus they are cousins, so when he asked her to travel with him as his wife she rejects him
- Helen Burns was Jane's first friend at Lowood School who dies early on in the novel and film
- Mr Brocklehurst is the manger of Lowood and treats Lowood students with disrespect and cruelty
- Mrs Fairfax was a friendly housekeeper at Thornfield who was extremely welcoming to Jane on her arrivals to Thornfield
- Bertha Mason is Mr Rochester's insane wife. she began to spiral into violence and madness so she is imprisoned in the attic of Thornfield and guarded by the housekeeper Grace Poole
