- Jane wakes up and finds herself in her own bed in the nursery. She quickly became confused and afraid
- she slowly becomes aware that there are 2 others in the room next to her Bessie and Mr Lloyd who is an apothecary
- Bessie is kind and sweet to Jane giving her many special treats
- Mr Lloyd also treats her with kindness. he also visits the next day to check up on her and to ask about the obvious depression
- However Jane finds it hard to explain to him how she feels
- Despite jane not explaining clearly he sees that she is unhappy at Gateshead and suggest she should be sent away to school
