  • Different attitudes to genetic engineering and cloning in Christianity
    • Liberal Protestants
      • GE and cloning is good and should be supported by the Church as long as it is done to cure diseases and not to produce perfect humans because:
        • Jesus was a healer and showed humans should do all to cure diseases
        • God wants humans to be stewards of the Earth. Using these discoveries to improve human life is a good thing
          • Embryos cannot be regarded as human life until they are 14 days old- this time is set by HEFA
        • There is a difference between creating cells and creating people
          • They accept non- religious arguments in favour of GE
    • Catholics
      • GE is acceptable as long as it is for curing diseases and not using human embryos because:
        • Life begins at conception whether in a womb or glass dish
        • Killing an embryo is killing human life- banned by the Bible and Church
        • Embryos for research have been produced using methods that the Catholics Church disagrees with -masturabation
    • Other Christians -oppose any form of GE because:
      • It is wrong to make the Earth perfect as only Heaven is perfect
      • GE is playing God and that is a great sin
      • God created the genetics make-up of each human at conception and people have no right to interfere with God's will
      • They accept non- religious arguments against GE
