2 of 19
The role of conscience as a guide in making moral decisions (for)

3 of 19
The role of conscience as a guide in making moral decisions (against)

4 of 19

Jesus used SE (overuled what Old Testament said when unloving) healed people on Sabbath, Christians should only do what will produce good results, Jesus - greatest commandments Love God+neighbour=do the most loving, religion of love-base MD on love
5 of 19
Situation Ethics as a guide for making moral decisions (against)
Bible is God's word to Christians on how to live, follow 10 commandments+Sermon on mount rather than own ideas, Church knows better than individual Christian, never be sure of consequences - never know all the facts of a situation
6 of 19
Why some Christians use a variety of authorities in making moral decisions
Protestants - Bible = straightforward doesn't have modern issues=e.g. CP use Church/conscience, Catholics-Church e.g artificial contraception Africa=most loving=conscience/SE, Christian-conscience-Church/Bible if say wrong things, SE complicated-B/Ch

Human rights in the United Kingdom
e.g. right to life, freedom from slavery, freedom of expression, right to marry/civil partnership, right to education
8 of 19
Why human rights are important for Christians
Right to life - sanctity of life, made in God's image - treat everyone equally, Freedom of thought, conscience, religion, expression, assembly, association (A CRATE) provide legal right to be Christians, employers can't discriminate
9 of 19
Why some human rights can cause problems for Christians
Against right to form civil partnerships, against right to interfaith marriages, against right of homosexuals to raise a family, if human rights allowed women to be priests or priests to marry
10 of 19
Why it is important to take part in democratic and electoral processes
Voting gives control over tax and VAT, control over council tax, European elections give control over EU spending, gives chance to affect new laws, ancestors fought for these rights, should use them
11 of 19
Christian teachings on moral duties and responsibilities - Golden Rule
Treat others as you would like them to treat you, in voting - e.g. go against party that would send asylum seekers home
12 of 19
Christian teachings on moral duties and responsibilities - Parable of the Sheep and the Goats
It is the duty of Christians to help the poor and suffering because when they do, they are helping God - e.g. go against a party that would cut off benefits to jobless who refuse jobs, what about children?
13 of 19
Christian teachings on moral duties and responsibilities - Am I my brother's keeper?
Christians have a duty to look after everyone in need - responsible for the rights of others - e.g. don't vote for a party that would not allow immigrants

Non-religious arguments for genetic engineering
Prospect of cures for currently incurable diseases, being done in other countries-available for rich enough people, Cloning using animal eggs doesn't involve loss of human life, genetic research is closely monitored by the law
15 of 19
Non-religious arguments against genetic engineering
Too little information about long-term consequences, effect are unchangeable if anything went wrong - permanent, places to much power in hands of scientists, treats human body the same as plants
16 of 19
Different attitudes to genetic engineering and cloning in Christianity (1)
1. Liberal protestants support - Jesus showed Christians should do all they can to cure disease, finding genetic cures is the same as drug cures, difference between creating cells and people, embryos aren't foetuses until 14 days old, non-religious
17 of 19
Different attitudes to genetic engineering and cloning in Christianity (2)
2. Roman Catholics, and some other Christians agree (when without embryos) - life begins at conception, killing an embryo is killing human life, killing is banned in the 10 commandments, embryos produced by un-Christian means
18 of 19
Different attitudes to genetic engineering and cloning in Christianity (3)
Some Christians against all genetic research - God creates everyone individually (no right to interfere), playing God which is a great sin, wrong to try and make Earth perfect, only heaven is perfect
