    • Dates:(1750-1800)
    • Characteristic: change in class structure created a musical public, comic operas, and the musical classical language. Divertimento.  Women influenced grew.
      • Enlightenment

      • CONVENTION, certain instruments, keys, forms!
    • Chamber music
      • Music that could be played at home, such as the SONATA (written for keyboard or keyboard +1 such as flute or violin. AND STRING QUARTET.
    • String quartet
      • Four stringed instruments (two violins, viola and cello)
    • Symphony
      • Strings (first and second violins, violas, cellos and double basses) Woodwind (two flutes or two oboes plus wo horns, later bassoons and clarinets used.)
    • Manheim orchestra (Stamitz)
      • Famous symphony , established the four movement scheme.
    • Sonata form, Minuet-and-trio form, rondo from and aria form
      • Sonata (1st movement) three sections, exposition, development and recapitulation.
      • Aria (2nd) ABA, lyrical.
      • Minuet-and-trio (3rd) minuet originally a baroque court dance, minuet is AABB, trio is CCDD.
      • Rondo (4th) fairly fast and lively, returning tune. ABACADA OR ABACABA
    • Reqiuem Mass
      • Mass for the dead in catholic church.
    • MUSIC
      • BEETHOVEN
        • Symphony no.5, dun dun dun dunnnn.
        • 2nd movement, clarinets and bassoons
        • 3rd movement, horns
        • 4th, trombones, contrabassoons and piccolos.
      • MOZART
        • First symphony, violin, soft then loud
      • HAYDN
        • 4th movement string quartet, sounds like jumping violin
