- in a demonstration we wish the learner to copy or model their behaviour on what they see demonstrated

- learner must be attracted to the demonstration
- cues should be used to highlight key points

- the visual model must be retained otherwise performance is not possible
- learner must keep the skill in the memory
- helps if they can create a mental picture - imagery, mental rehearsal
- practice and repetition must take place
