They built 46 dams and 3600km of levees were built along the middle and lower parts of the river

This is the biggest dam that was built, 101m high, started construction in 1994, stores 22km³ of water and releases it slowly, and its the biggest hydro-electric power station with 26 turbines

Good effects:
Reduced flooding from once evry 10 years to once every 100 year, can produce 22.5 gigawatts of electricity and its safer to navigate up the yangtze

13 cities, 1352 vilages, farmland, 657 factories and 1300 sites of culture and history including the Zhang Fei temple

the dam will fail and the floods would be catastrophic
