Limited Capacity. Deals with auditory information and preserves word order.

Baddeley (86)
Subdivided into Phonological Store (holds words heard) & Atriculatory process (holds words heard/seen and silently repeated (looped) like an inner voice).

Episodic Buffer
Limited Capacity. Baddeley (2000) added episodic buffer as he realised that the model needed more of a general store. Its extra storage and integrates information from other areas.

Baddeley (75) - Visual Tracking Task
Investigated existence of VSSP in STM. Asked to follow a line with a laser and to describe angles on a letter and could not do it. When asked to do either task with a verbal task they could do it, but slower.

Baddeley (75) - Evidence for PL
Participants saw everyday words displayed quickly one after another and were then asked to write the words seen in order. Condition 1 contained short words & Cond 2 Contained long words. Short words fit into word length order so easier to remember.

Paulesu (93) - Articulatory Loop
Participants brains were scanned whilst they were either storing a series of letters or judging if 2 words rhymed. Their brain was injected with mildly radioactive glucose to show up on scan what parts of the brain were active.
Findings: Inner voice part of the brain was different to that of just the inner ear proving different areas of the brain. (S) Experiment so high control... (W) Cant be generalised to symbol writing cultures like china.

Evaluation of WMM
(S) WMM provides more complex model of STM (S) WMM does not involve just memory (S) Evidence (S) Practical applications (W) No LTM (W) Central Executive has no research but most important part.

Card 2
Front
Limited Capacity. Direct attention to tasks and determines how the other slave systems are allocated. Most Vague but most important.
Back
Central Executive
Card 3
Front
Limited Capacity. For Visual and Spatial information stored here. Visual = what things look like/Spatial = Relationship between things.
