we need to be able to do things with minimal thought to it, otherwise we are more likely to mess up, also, procedural memory is vital to being able to pick up new skills

Episodic memory is usually associated with the Hippocampus and surrounding area, as well as the frontal lobe, Semantic memory also uses the temporal lobe, while Procedural memory involves the Cerebellum. fMRI scans can and have been used to gain a visual

why is there a problem with brain damaged patient studies e.g., amnesiacs
it is unsure what area of the brain is causing memory problems until post-mortem, just because a lobe is damaged does not then make that lobe responsible.
