what are two examples of a SRT?
.questionnaires
.interviews
1 of 14
what are the 2 types of questionnaires?
.open ended- answer how PP want, qualitative data, rich, detailed data
.closed- restrict PP to select from 2 or more options, quantitative data,
2 of 14
what are the diff types of closed questions?
.checklist-they tick a box
.likert response- pp rank their feelings on a scale ie agree, disagree, etc
.ranking scale-PP place a list of things in a preferred order
3 of 14
name the evaluations of open questionnaires
+less chances of researcher bias, even more if the Q is anonymous so PP can answer confidently with their own personal opinions
-PP may answer in a socially desirable way, trying to seem favourable, which lacks validity
4 of 14
name the evaluations of closed questionnaires
+since it's quantitative data, content analysis is easy to complete and enables comparisons of groups to be made, more research can be done
-not able to explore answers in detail, can also form response bias if the PP rushes the Q, lacking internal validi

what factors should be kept in mind when designing questionnaires?
.keep the terminology simple and clear
.keep it as short as possible
.be sensitive, only collect personal qs at the end
.do not use leading questions
.do not make assumptions in qs
.pilot and modify the qs
6 of 14
what are the 3 interview designs?
.structured- answering premeditated qs
.unstructured- a relaxed conversation
.semi structured- are a mix of both
7 of 14
what will an interviewer use and what else do they do?
they use an interviewer schedule and the PP answers will also be recorded
8 of 14
name the evaluation of structured interviews?
+quantitative data, easy content analysis, easy to compare answers, and same qs asked to same ppl cuz they're standardised qs
-investigator effects, ie tone of voice can make PP think differently, or they're is a bias
9 of 14
what type of data does is produce and how is it recorded?
quantitative rich data
usually video recorded as unstructured interviews can mean a lot of info comes out
10 of 14
name the evaluations of unstructured interviews
+increase validity as it reduces investigator effects, reducing possibility of PP showing demand characteristics
+rich data that tells us about PP feelings, [-time consuming, costly, harder to do content analysis]
11 of 14
what type of data does semi structured interviews form?
as researchers can deviate from questions and ask for more information or feelings on a matter, this also produces rich quantitative data
12 of 14
name the evaluations of semi structured interviews
+increases validity as PP are encouraged to be honest w answers, reducing chances of social desirability bias [-interviewer still in control, so could possibly cause interviewer effects]
+rich, qualitative data [-time consuming, costly, harder to do conte
13 of 14
what are the principles to write good qs?
.clarity
.removing bais
.easy analysis required
.filler qs to distract pp
.sequence for the qs (start w easy ones, then hard)
.pilot study
