Subsidies- hand outs from government. Means farmers in US can lower price of their cotton (don't need as much money) but farmers in Mali can't so people buy US cotton as its cheaper. Sweatshops, eg payed 12p/hr for Nike

"help people to help themeselves"- sustainable. Provide both long/short term relief. Work with partnerships- can learn culture and language
