Polysomnography
A study of a sleeping individual which records multiple physical changes in the body and brain.

Measures the brains electrical activity.

Stages 1 - 4
Non-REM sleep.
1 = "drifting off"
2 = Less responsive (10mins)
3 = EEG shows delta waves. Unresponsive (25mins)
4 = Sleep gets gradually deeper.

Stage 5
REM sleep.
Eyes will rapidly move. Body is temporarily paralysed. This is when we dream.
