a circadian rhythem is a body clock it controls when you will wake up or sleep it operates over roughly 24hours

a tiny group of neurons in the hypothalamus controls your bodys circadian rhythm.

as sunlight decreases the visual system send signals to the SCN sensing that theres less light outsidethe SCN sends signal to the pineal gland to increases the production of the hormone melatonin this makes you sleepy

melatonin is a sleepy hormone

indivduals who are blind from birth often have problems with their sleep cycle because the lack of light

what happensat the 1st stage of sleep
the start of the sleep cycle this is a light stage of sleep. the brain produces very slow brain waves

what happens at the 2nd stage of sleep
the 2nd stage last about 20mins. the brain produces bursts of rapid rhythmic brain activity. these are called sleep spindels. the body tempearture decreaes and the heart begins to slow

what happens at the 3rd stage of sleep
deep, slow brain waves called delta waves are produced

What's happens at the 4th stage of sleep
This is sometimes called a delta wave. Deep sleep lasting about 30 minutes bed wetting and sleep walking may occur
