Forced migration
The movement of people for 1 year or more due to being impelled to move - no choice
Reasons:
To escape: War, Famine, Torture
Examples: Ukraine, Syria

Voluntary migration
The movement of people for 1 year or more due to their own choice
Examples: Chiapas, Mexico to Santa Barbara, USA
Can be international or internal

Internal migration
The movement of people for 1 year or more within a country
Examples: Rural to Urban, Urban to Rural

International migration
The movement of people for 1 year or more from 1 country to another
Examples: Syria to the UK, UK to Spain

Net Migration
The number of migrants entering a country/region -
the number of migrants leaving

Push factors
Repelling of an area that is the cause of people wanting/forced to leave
Examples: Poverty/gangs in Chiapas, Mexico

Pull factors
The attractions/advantages of an area that pull the people to a particular place. Can be real or perceived.
Example: Higher wages on the broccoli farms of Santa Barbara, USA

Chain migration
Migrants from a particular town follow others from that town to a particular city or suburb.
Example: Chiapas, Mexico to Santa Barbara, USA

Refugee
People are forced to leave an area for their safety for 1 year or more.
Examples: from Syria, Ukraine

The movement of people across a boundary/border which is inside or between countries to establish a new place of residence for 1 year or more

The movement of people INTO a new country to live for 1 year or more
