What happened in 1950?
1. The marriage act was passed, giving better rights to women in marriage. 2. The anti-theistic campaign started. 3. Mao visited Moscow and signed the Sino-Soviet agreement.

What were the anti-movements? (1951-52)
Waste, corruption and inefficiency were targeted by the government at first. Later bribery, industrial sabotage, fraud, tax evasion and theft of government property were targeted too. These were all indirectly targeting the middle class "rightists".

What was the First Five Year Plan? (1952-56)
It was a plan inspired by the Russian communists; Mao aimed to help the economy and improve self sufficiency with this plan. Its results were a boost in coal output (doubled) and electricity output (tripled). However, this left a debt to the Soviets.

Joseph Stalin, Communist leader of the Soviet Union

Who were Gao Gang and Rao Rashi?
They were two high up members of the CCP, who were publicly denounced in 1954 for their half hearted efforts in following Mao's industrial programme. Gao killed himself from the shame, these claims also seem to be unfounded.

When and why was mandarin standardised?
To make education and propaganda easier, to appeal to the masses and make more people literate. This occurred in 1955.

What was collectivisation? (1956)
Collectivisation was an agricultural policy of Mao's, the division of China's land into communes, and the split of people into collectives, all living in groups, split up from families and effectively made the land reforms redundant.
