Clues

  • A party that is not in government (10, 5)
  • An organisation that develops a set of political goals and policies, which it seeks to convert into political action by obtaining governmental office or by influencing the government of the day. They mobilise public opinion, put candidates up (9, 5)
  • Identifying what the public and party want and deciding what is realistic and should have priority so it can be put into a practical political programme. (11)
  • May be formed when one party does not gain more than half of the MPs in an election so joins with another party to form a government (9, 10)
  • MPs for a party that are not ministers (9, 3)
  • Party Members who educate the public, particularly at election time, about what their party stands for and persuade people to vote for them (5, 9)
  • People who will compete to stand in elections (10)
  • Structure or hierarchy in the party which enables the party to produce election manifestos and select candidates effectively and to mobilise activists. (12)
  • The largest party forms a government of its own even if it has less than half of the MPs in Parliament. This type of government could have difficulty passing laws. (8, 10)
